Week 10: Reason again

This week Jack introduces Reason this software to create more realistic instrument sound by bring the midi files created import into Reason. Reason have alot of function, it contains hardware synthesizers, samplers, signal processors, sequencers and mixers. A digital type of mixing desk we can use to make our music.

Jack uses few sample by creating bringing midi into NNXT and using redrum to create drum beats for the song. It is very cool when trying different styles of drum beat and makes the feeling of your video totally different.

I have choosen a cartoon style of drumbeat and piano to make my animation have more cute and happy feeling. Hopefully everything goes well!

Week 9: .sib .sib .sib

These 2 weeks we a few music using sibelius, some of them shown by jack in the class, there are quite a number students who are really good at creative nice music with this software. Envy them. I workhard in researching all the notes and chords to compose some nice one too.

I really found out sibelius is a good software not only use for editing and printing purposes, it can also play high quality music and export into midi files which is a very small file easy to use it on internet.

This week Jack teaches us in importing our video into Sibelius too, it makes us easier in writing the scores as we can refer to our video to create the music ambience we wanted .

Task for next week:
Compose song for my video ~

Week 8: Sibelius

Today we met our happy face lecturer - Jack, he starts off with sharing his background and giving us an idea of what we are going to learn in next coming weeks. For the first half of the class, Jack talks about the theory of music and basic ones includes the names, notes, chords, keys and etc.

After that, he told the class to open up Sibelius, a midi composing software and teaches us how to us it. It was not as complicated as what I am learning in MUS299 Reason and it is easier to understand for my level.

We tried to play with the notes, just like drawing your own piece. I think the best part of it is using the same notes we can change to different types of instrument which would bring a difference for the song.

Week 7: Presentation

This week each of us have to present our .MOV file and explain our ideas and the challenges that we faced in the progress. The 3 lectures includes Peter are there to give comments and advices for our video.

It seems like they quite impressed of the overall students production. I am quite glad I have successfully done my first stop motion as well.

We are told that Jack will be our lecturer starts on next week and our goals is to create songs for our video, composing a original song will be the upcoming new challenge for us!

Hoorah!

Week 6: After Effects

Its all about after effects this week, Kate teaches us step by step in using after effects to combine our foreground and background, which is an easy part, everyone done it quite fast. After that, she teaches us way to key out our foreground"s background to make our background comes out.

It is quite tough for me to key out clearly my foreground"s background because the colour of my object and background are quite similar, I tried few ways using the effects in AE to makes the effects looks nicer and cleaner.

After that, Kate shows us how to play around with AE, create movements, turning around the object. This is a good revision to me eventhough I have learnt that in the past.

Finally, we will have to prepare to finalize and export our video for next coming presentation. Good luck!

This is a good tutorial for key-ing out green screen.

Week 5: Foreground

Here comes the 5th week of this semester, during the week I had changed my way of using the candle light instead of play with the fire, I chose to turn upside down using the back of it to create motion. It was kinda interesting when you need to figure the object and create using blocks of candles, I think I did a good job in arranging and create the thing I wanted to. During the past weekend I did my photography of the sky too. I went to the nearest beach 10 minutes walk from my room. I climbed up the cliff and set the camera on top of the tripod. I took picture of the sky once every 10 seconds, it took me quite sometime to achieve my target 350 photos. After getting all the picture I want, I went back to my room and copy all the pictures to my laptop. The same way to do stopmotion, finally i created my background and foreground for my this assignment. I hope the lecturers love my final product =) cant wait for next class (Using After Effects by Kate)!!!

Week 4: Background

This week is our first submission of our first part of stop motion, background. I have done part of my candle stopmotion but I have encounter several problems and I have share with Michael to ask for his opinion. Firstly, I do not have a closed space to light up the candle, the wind outdoor are too big at night and all the indoors are fixed up with firealarm. Secondly is I do not have an equipment to light up the candles in time, will is very troublesome because I need to light up again and again. Michael given me few suggestions and he loved what I did after I showed him a sample of my candle stopmotion.

I guess i will have to find a way to solve or else I will have to change my idea of doing it. So I submitted the part of candle stopmotion and move on to do the background of it. I have choosen blue sky as my background, then I book a DSLR from damien on tomorrow. Excited!

Basic Stopmotion Tutorial:
1) Take all the pictures taken import into editing software (Finalcut/Flash/Imovie/PremierePro/AfterEffects/Etc)
2) You will have to choose the sequence settings before export (Basic=10 Frames per second)
3) Arrange them in correct sequence
4) You will see the result while playing after all in sequence
5) You can set the speed by adjusting the frames
6) That is the simple way to do stopmotion
